Csaba Horváth said goodbye to the club and fans on Saturday and, in an instant, he was heading back to the Netherlands on Wednesday. After he signs his contract with Haag, he is leaving for a training camp in England.
A long-time pillar of AS and the former captain of the team Csaba Horváth said goodbye to the club and fans during the break of Saturday’s league duel against Podbrezová and already on Wednesday, he was heading back to the Netherlands. “I arrived in Slovakia on Saturday at about 3 pm and I was heading directly to the stadium in Trenčín. I have a lot to do about my moving to the Netherlands, but I could not miss the game. I am glad that I made it, disclosed Horváth at the beginning.
After almost four years spent in Trenčín, the tall defender has become one of the team’s leaders as well as one of the most popular players among the fans. He had neither left the team during the hard fights for “survival” in the top league, nor after the fall into the lower league. “I am still sorry for our elimination. And although I am leaving, this team is still strong enough to succeed in getting back among the elite. I will keep everyone’s fingers crossed. The fans as well as the whole town deserve the top league. There is no doubt about it. Trenčín belongs to Corgoň League,“ said Horváth and added after an emotional farewell; “Maybe I did not even deserve it, but I confess I was very pleased. I am leaving a big piece of my heart here. Our fans have always stood by us. Their choreography during the game against Podbrezová was wonderful. Club AS is my number one in Slovakia. My relationship to it is very strong and nothing can take away this feeling from me.”
The experienced defender is in a good shape. It has been evident from his performance on the pitch in the most recent games. He scored in the first-league premiere of AS against the “B” team of Ružomberok although playing, atypically, left defense. He also scored in the prep game in the ADO Den Haag’s jersey last week. “We won 2-0 and my header after a standard situation set the final score. I played in the first half,“ explained Horváth and commented on his effort to get into the lineup of the Dutch top-league team; “There are three middle defenders in the team. Moreover, the defensive midfields are also alternatives for this post. In spite of that, I think I can get into the staring lineup and play regularly. I am not going there to sit on the bench. I feel an opportunity and I want to seize it.“
Players have currently a five-day off time in Haag. Horváth will sign the contract on Wednesday. Right after that, the whole team is leaving for a training camp to England.
