Another Common Project of Dr. Clown Foundation and AS Trenčín

It was a strong feeling, an unbelievable experience. The players in their snow-white AS jerseys surrounded children from House of Social Services DEMY in Trenčín helping them to climb up onto the tribune. Some of them were able to make it themselves with just a slight support, but the ones in the wheelchairs needed more help from their parents and the players. Finally, everything went well and while the children grouped together in the AS Trenčín fan sector, the fans installed banners, took out team shawls, and a megaphone and the work on the photos for a common calendar of disabled children and the football club could start.

The complete A-team of AS Trenčín, a symbolical eleven of the children from DEMY, a group of fans, the ever-smiling clowns, willing volunteers as well as the others involved started their common work shortly before Monday noon. The idea to make a common calendar had been considered for longer time. “We wanted to take pictures of the players with children for a calendar already during the last season but we somehow missed the right invention. This changed after we started a closer cooperation with Dr. Clown Foundation and good ideas for the project started coming almost automatically,“ said the club’s Marketing Manager Igor Schlesinger adding; “This project has nothing in common with the sport results of the team. We want to bring joy not only during the “obligatory” 90 minutes but also in the form of social and cultural events. Moreover, working with disabled children had also an educational impact. We are now viewing some things differently. Some people in the club reviewed their values.”

At the beginning, some children did not feel very comfortably but their embarrassment was gone in a while. “This photo taking was the first event after they returned from their July’s holidays. A lot of them were returning back to DEMY sad after the month spent with their families. This event has cheered them up. They may have appeared a bit embarrassed at the beginning, but after some time they started feeling very well in their roles,“ explained Janka Sedláčková, the Manager of Dr. Clown Foundation.

The photographer Rado Stoklasa was a very active element of the event. He had had a lot of funny experiences with the children from DEMY before. The photo taking at the stadium had brought some new surprises to him, however. “We had no doubts about the professionalism of the clowns. We were not quite sure about the performing arts of the players though. We hoped that they would understand their roles. We are glad that they finally managed everything very well. As far as children’s roles are concerned, we did not try to direct them too much. We let them move naturally and the rest of us tried to accommodate. This photo taking was a great experience and, in my opinion, it had tremendous significance.”

The other performers shared this opinion; “It was very funny to coach the players. I was shouting on them to run more and try harder,“ said Martin Sládek smiling and enjoying his new role of the Team Manager. “Excellent event, exceeding my expectations! The best of all was the improvisation. There were some unbelievable situations during the scene installations, it was very funny,“ stated clown Adino toweling sweat from his face in the 30-degree temperature. I am pleasantly surprised. I confess I expected it to be more difficult. It was an interesting experience not only for the children but also for the players and for us,” another clown impersonated by Vlado Kulíšek added his reaction.

The AS players did not only took the roles of photo models but also became the guards of the children. Lukáš Šebek happily accompanied the coach Martin on the stairs to the cabins and back. The other players were also willingly helping by moving the disabled children. “I have never experienced anything like this. It is a very interesting event;” smiled Roman Gergel exchanging his “equipment” with a clown in one of the pictures. My pictures were taken in the gym. We were making some special calf exercises with the children,” Martin Kasálek joined the discussion. “It is perfectly organized and we are glad to participate on an event like this. I have already experienced something similar in Senec. We visited children in a specialized home. We brought some posters, jerseys, and caps. They showed us the place where they lived and the products they made,” Lubor Knapp added his previous similar experience.

The thankful parents also appreciated the attitude of players. “It was a great idea. Our children are very satisfied. I am glad that the boys from AS took care of them so promptly. It has definitely been a new experience for them – the jerseys, stadium, players… The integration of the disabled children among the healthy people is simply amazing,“ said Mrs. Dagmar Pisetová, mother of Deniska being at DEMY for nine years, praising the wonderful atmosphere of the photo taking.

The common photo taking was successful thanks to all of the participants but especially thanks to the children who managed their roles perfectly. The final product will be available in the first half of September and the profit from its sale will go for the benefit of Dr. Clown Foundation.
