Our opponent in Champions League is Steaua Bucharest

Our opponent in second qualifying round of Champions League is Steaua Bucharest. This decision was made after Monday draw in Nyon. First match will be played on 14th or 15th July on home pitch. Return match will be played a week later on 21st or 22nd July on National Stadium in Bucharest.

„There are no easy teams in this stage. These teams are the champions of their leagues after all. It will be definitely a tough match. We must prepare conscientiously and do our best for a good result. We must be cautious and try to have a clean sheet after first match. I believe we can score a goal in Bucharest because offense is our strong point.” said Coach Martin Sevela.

Our coach also mentioned the match against Astra Giurgu two years ago. “We lost first match in Dubnica 1:3 and in the return match in Bucharest we draw with them 2:2. It was also played on National Stadium so we know what to expect.”

Players of AS are looking forward to the match against Steaua. “It is a tough opponent but regardless the name we are not afraid of them. We have a quality to dominate in these matches. They can surprise us with their aggression so we must prepare carefully on this aspect of their style.” said Matus Bero.

Milan Rundic, Peter Klescik and Igor Semrinec also agreed on the fact that Steaua is a difficult opponent but everybody in the team is determined to reach a good result and make an attempt to advance to the next round.

Steaua Bucharest was found in 1947. Since then they have never relegated from the Romanian Premier Divison and they have reached twenty-six league titles. The most successful year was 1986 when Steaua won European Champion Club’s Cup (Champions League) and European Super Cup.
