Another of many young players trying to get to the lineup of AS Trenčín is a 20 years old Greek defender Alexandros Pagkalis. A player of Panathinaikos Athens has played in several U21 caps for Greece.
“I started with football when I was eight. I transferred to the academy of Panathinaikos when I was fifteen. I signed my first professional contract three years later and it took another year until I appeared in my first games. It finally happened during the training camps in Switzerland and then in England,” the young Greek discloses.
Pagkalis arrived to Trenčín already a month ago. “Angelos (Chanti) helped me a lot at the beginning. I did not know him before, but I had already heard of him from my friends. The lifestyle in Slovakia is different from ours, but I can get used to it,” the promising defender said and commented on his contract with AS: “It is a chance for me to make further progress in my career. I believe that it is a good choice and that I will be successful. Football here is rather power-based than technical, but the league is quite quality.”
Pagkalis’s height is almost 190 cm, but in spite of popularity of basketball in Greece he has never tried this sport. “Maybe I could have succeeded in basketball, but I have played football from my childhood and I am glad that I decided like this,” added the native of Korfu island laughing.
