Rosario Central belongs to the most popular and traditional clubs in Argentina. It will celebrate its 120th anniversary on Christmas next year. Newell’s Old Boys coming from the same city is an old-age rival of the club. The stadium ‘Gigante de Arroyito’ is crowded with fifty thousand fans during the ‘Clásico Rosarino’ – the city derby of these teams. River Plate and Boca Juniors are other big rivals of the club. Diego Calgaro, the new acquisition of AS has good memories of one of the games against Boca Juniors. “My role in the game at ‘La Bombonere’ (the legendary stadium of Juniors) was clear – to ‘guard’ Riquelme. The game was successful for us (ended tied 1-1) and for me personally as Riquelme was not able to muddle through,“ the defensive midfield remembers the game in which he ‘erased’ his stellar national and was announced the player of the round.
The almost 24-year old Diego Calgaro has had more than 60 appearances in the jersey of Rosario Central. He signed a contract until the end of the current season plus a 2-year option with Trenčín. He has played in many difficult games in the Argentinean league. His favorite position is defensive midfield. His specialties are accurate and often surprising passes, excellent positioning, and foulless defense. “He will definitely need some time for acclimatization, but he has already showed his qualities since he came here two weeks ago. He can be a very useful player for Trenčín,“ said the general manager Róbert Rybníček about the 185-centimeter tall player.
The transfer from a famous Latin-American team to the First-League Trenčín is an opportunity for Calgaro to penetrate to Europe. “I welcomed the opportunity to transfer to Trenčín. There are a lot of players in my country who have never succeeded in getting here. I am happy I did. I consider this transfer a first step. I believe that through my quality performance and thanks to the excellent contacts of Mr. Tschen La Ling, I will be able to move further to more interesting leagues. Before it happens though, I have an important mission in Trenčín,“ the newest member of the AS family discloses.
I noticed his big self-confidence and trust in success during our talks. He is firmly persuaded that Trenčín will advance to the top league and wants to contribute to meeting this goal by his quality performance,“ the marketing manager Igor Schlesinger being responsible for the Spanish-speaking enclave smiles talking about the Argentinean. Diego’s attitude is unbelievably responsible and professional. During the games, he acts like a dispatcher who gets involved in most of team’s activities. Communication is a key thing for him. That is why he asked us to help him find a Slovak lecturer. He has already had first lessons.
Diego Calgaro is getting used to the life in Slovakia. Besides learning first words, he is also getting acquainted with the football environment. Coach Ivan Galád is also pleased by the arrival of the new quality player. The competition inside the team increased again. Diego Calgaro will already be available in the game against Dunajská Streda.
