Ajax Amsterdam hired him when he was 15. Two years later, he already appeared in the main team’s lineup and tried the Champions League. Health problems however stopped him for almost a year. He could now get back in the jersey of AS Trenčín. We talk about the 22-year-old offensive midfield Stanley Aborah whose whole name is Stanley Junior Aborah Opoku.
He came to Trenčín already at the end of the last year. He participated in several trainings. “After I returned, I started having problems with my back. I got a special treatment and I‘m feeling quite well today. I’m slowly starting with training and gradually increase the training load. It’s fine so far,“ said the son of the former national player of Ghana.
The player brought up by Anderlecht Brusel got injured in January last year. He tried to return after four months, but his injury renewed soon. He went through a surgery and another three-month break. I met with Mr. La Ling in November. He recommended me the physiotherapist Dick van Toorn. After his treatment I was able to start running in two weeks,“ the former Belgian U19 national player remembers.
The future of the young midfield can be greatly affected by his health state. The recent weeks have shown however that he could be on the right track. “It’s going fine. I can start training finally after a long time. I could play in three or four weeks. I still have to strengthen the inguens and the back though,“ said Aborah.
He will probably never forget October 2004. “I was 17 and I played for Ajax in the Champions League. We defeated Maccabi Tel Aviv 3:0. I played almost half an hour and I had several scoring chances in the game. I played quite well,“ says the native of Ghana smiling. He came in for Rafael Van der Vaart then. The attendance at the game was almost 50.000. “I’ve got to work hard and be very patient. I hadn’t been injured before in the youth categories so I believe I’m going to overcome it,“ the former Ajax’s ‘B‘ team captain concluded.
