Rybníček: First Adapt, Then Results

Interview with Robert Rybníček, general manager of AS Trenčín

You are going through a hectic summer. Do you have time at all for a holiday?
Are you joking? A holiday? Not at all. The arrival of a foreign investor has taken and is still taking a big amount of energy and time. The Dutch company has a completely different idea of how the Club should operate compared to how it worked until now. They put a lot of emphasis on the diet of the football players. They are trying to bring international talent from abroad, and by means of new training methods they are improving the level of the current AS players. There are many arrangements related to this. We want to make the investors’ plans into reality.

What does the Dutch arrival mean to you personally?
First of all, it is a great challenge since there isn’t any similar project in Slovakia. Along with the know-how coming from abroad, we also expect substantial financial support from our partners. I hope my dream will finally come true and instead of a never-ending quest for money for the club treasury I will finally also have time for the real managing of AS Trenčín.

What’s your impression of the English coach?
Rob Mc Donald is a real professional. It’s a pleasure to be cooperating with him. Despite the fact he played on great teams, he doesn’t let it show. He is self-confident and he also pours this characteristic into the heads of the players. He likes order. When we agree on something, it always happens.

At what position in the chart would you like to finish at the end of the season?
More important than the team’s final placement will be handling a number of new initiatives coming from the new owners. When we successfully adapt to the new conditions, we can talk about concrete rankings.
