The captain feels bad about the loss mainly because of fans

Csaba Horvath: "We need to have a bigger heart."

AS has not fully pointed since September 22. Neither the winter break, nor a quintuple of new players changed that. In spite of visible game progress, the team of Martin Stano encountered two spring losses and both bother. After hesitation against Dubnica, another one came at home in the game against Košice (1:2). We returned back to this duel in an interview with Csaba Horváth, the captain of the team.

The seventh loss in a row is just too much. Where did you actually loose the game, was it because of the 90 minutes performance, or was it a matter of definitive moments?

“Another unfortunate game. We sweat, work hard and they score from the only action right at the end of half-time. I am speechless. Moreover, there was a foul and that’s when the game has to be stopped. We could not expect that from Košice. That score right before our leaving for changing rooms detuned us a little bit. However, we went to the second half-time with the aim to reverse. Not only myself, also others had chances. They scored twice out of three or four shots. We had more chances, in those terms we were more active, however, we didn’t succeed to score.”

It looked like the team stopped to play after the first conceded goal…

“What proceeded was a standard situation, or a long out. After the saved ball a Košice player got into one-to-one situation and I believe, he fouled Kleščo. There were another two and Boris (Godál) went to fight. It seemed impossible to get through, however, luckily it passed to a free player. Maybe, unconsciously, we were awaiting to hear the referee’s whistle. It was not only a clear foul but also our stupid mistake and unfortunate goal. Until then we were able to cover them well, they were not dangerous at all.”

In spite of better play… after two losses emerging comes coherence with spoiled fall season. How do you feel about it?

“I am convinced that we have the power to save ourselves. Even at the 0:2 status we believed at least in gaining a point. However, we have to transfer the quality and unity of the team to the field. So far we have not succeeded. There are 13 rounds left before the end and there’s no second chance for another-go. We need every single point as a salt and we can’t afford to hand them out like in Dubnica, or in the game against Košice. We’ve been working hard for more than two months, we have gone through good quality preparation. The unfortunate games come and we’re set back where we came from. Now we’ll see what kind of a team we are. We will be playing out against Zlaté Moravce. It‘s going to be a very important match and it’s time for us to deliver. Even one point for us helps. We need to get on track, not just receive one slam after another.”

What is needed for the team recovery?

From my point of view we need to have a bigger heart. It must be felt that we play for retrieval. We’re not able to go into it for the whole 90 minutes. Even if the play is not going very well, it must be felt that the team is there.”

In the game against Košice the team did not manage transfer to the offending stage. Again it led only to kicking the ball. Players in the front were not receiving needed balls. You were pushing, however, balls kept coming back as if bounced back from the wall.

“We have to produce more combinations and move the play to wing sides. It’s hard to comment otherwise, it’s true.”

At least nice attendance pleased, for sure…

“That’s just what bothers me the most. Fans deserve our big appreciation for cheering up in Dubnica as well as at home against Košice. We were not able to respond by a good result. Despite a TV hockey game that day, the attendance was very nice. Fans see occurring changes. We need to get on track and repay their trust. The play itself is not that bad, just results.”
