The Dutch defender of AS Trenčín Prince Addai experienced a real baptism of fire in the top Slovak league – his premiere took place at the stadium of the current leader and champion MŠK Žilina. Moreover, his position on the side of defense was not typical for him. "My favorite position is in the middle of defense but it does not really matter - even in forward, I will always do my best,“ said Addai after the game in Žilina.
“I do not know Slovak mentality much but I would say we showed too much respect. We controlled the ball in critical moments but we were making mistakes and Žilina punished them all. It is necessary to add however that we stood against an excellent team,” Addai comments the weekend loss against the champion and continues; “There is a group of very talented young players in Trenčín . We have to create a more coherent team though. We have to be all it together and then we can save the league. I believe we will succeed in it.“
Although he is still just getting to know about the quality of the Slovak league, he can already say it is not inferior. “Its level is really high. I heard something and now I tried something myself. Žilina, for instance, can be compared to Feyenoord or Heerenveen beyond controversy. Ajax and PSV are higher but Žilina is definitely comparable to the rest of the Dutch competition,“ draws the former Feyenoord’s reserve and the first-league Dordrecht player a surprising testimonial to the Slovak champion.
Playing for AS Trenčín is a new experience and a new challenge for him. “I am meeting new people and getting to know a new town and a new country. I really like it here,” says Addai and adds; ”I want both the team and myself to improve, to go ahead step by step. My dream is to play in England.” This kind and well-oriented young man living from his age of three in the “country of tulips” has another dream as well; “My nationality is Dutch but I can still play for Ghana’s national team. I was born there and I feel more like a Ghanaian.“
