The series of preparatory games is over. The last of the long list of winter duels took place in Žilina. In spite of the loss, it was a solid ending for AS against the Corgoň-League leader.
It seemed that AS started the game with too much respect to the sound name of the rival. Guľa’s team however managed to stand the pressure of the home team in the first 20-minute period. They even opened the score in the 27th minute, when Gergel’s free kick from a difficult angle surprisingly ended in the net. Trenčín wasn’t enjoying the lead too long though. Just seconds after the opening goal, there came a response by Majtán. Salinas could add another goal in the 36th minute. The home goalkeeper stood out however saving after his close-up attempt. In the 41st minute, it was Majtán again who scored after an individual action.
Trenčín were much more daring in the second half. Despite, the home team had more scoring chances. Oravec failed in his first heading wide in the 50th minute, but 9 minutes later already made it 3:1. Trenčín took initiative afterwards having three promising opportunities, twice by Straka and once by Hlohovský. The yellow-green defense resisted these attacks though. Rilke was more efficient on the other side. His hard shot from behind of the penalty area set the final result of the game – 4:1.
